PED 1070 LIFEGUARDING
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. Course content includes communication and teamwork, effective surveillance techniques, victim recognition, emergency action plans, rescue techniques, and victim extrication methods. Students are eligible to receive certification from the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Special Fee: $15. An additional fee is paid directly to the American Red Cross by students choosing to pursue certification (optional).
Prerequisite
Students must pass a water skills test demonstrating elements of strength, speed, and endurance. This is required by the American Red Cross.
