International Student Admission
Elon University values intercultural experiences in education. International students from more than 49 countries attend Elon each year. Prospective students from outside the United States can obtain all pertinent information at elon.edu/admissions. Degree seeking international students must submit the first-year application with a nonrefundable U.S. $60 application fee, original secondary school transcripts and certified translations, official test scores, essay and a completed Secondary School Report. (International students transferring from another university should review the requirements listed under “Transfer Admissions”). While not required for an admissions decision, a completed Certificate of Financial Responsibility, copy of passport and bank statement are recommended at the time of application. This will expedite issuing the appropriate immigration documents for enrolling international students.
International students residing outside of the United States must submit an official school transcript, including grades and examination certificates.
If a student’s native language is not English or a student is attending a school where English is not the primary language of instruction, the student must demonstrate English proficiency through a standardized test or English language program. A minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL or a 6.5 on the IELTS is required for admission, or successful completion of ELS level 112, ALA level 5, or a minimum 110 score from Duolingo.
Elon will evaluate the application based on the student’s academic performance, the essay or personal statement, Secondary School Report and letter of recommendation. A personal or Skype interview may also be required.
Applications and documentation should be submitted as early as possible since it may take several months to receive and process forms from outside the United States. International inquiries may be directed to the office by emailing admissions@elon.edu.
