POL 235 CIVIC AND POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT
In spite of greater access to information about society, politics, and the economy, it is often noted that the American population is increasingly disengaged from involvement in civic matters. Within this course, we will examine academic and popular social literature in the area of sociopolitical participation and civic engagement. Students will examine and analyze basic governmental and political institutions that shape the scope of civic engagement. They will also work to develop communication, organization, analysis, and persuasion skills that are necessary for efficient and effective policy change and social movements. This course is designed to help students lay the necessary foundation for developing the knowledge and skills required for increasing their own engagement and participation, as well as that of others.
