NRS 480 Pathways to Practice

This course will explore the essential elements of the development of nursing leadership skills, roles and delegation. The course will include completion of a capstone project that synthesizes evidence-based practice, builds on previously learned concepts and skills, and demonstrates application, integration, or discovery within nursing theory or practice.  Students will be prepared for mastery of the NCLEX-RN examination and develop strategies for the successful transition from student to professional nurse.

  1. 1. Synthesize concepts of leadership, management, change and communication in relation to the role of the professional nurse, nurse leader and nurse manager.
  2. 2. Apply leadership concepts, skills, and decision making in the provision of high-quality nursing care, healthcare team coordination, and the oversight and accountability for care delivery in a variety of settings.
  3. 3. Demonstrate satisfactory competence in clinical skills per the NRS 470 Clinical Evaluation Tool.
  4. 4. Create innovative models to function in the role of charge nurse and team leader.
  5. 5. Disseminate their capstone project.
  6. 6. Successfully complete the NCLEX review course.
  7. 7. Create a professional development plan that guides lifelong learning and demonstrates a commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
