HST 252 GHANA: AN EXPLORATION OF WEST AFRICA'S HISTORY AND CULTURE
This course is designed for students to experience life in vibrant modern Ghana while they gain an appreciation for the country's rich past. The class includes visits to historic sites, markets, palaces and museums; participation in cultural events; family visits in rural communities; treks through parks; and lectures by Ghanaian university faculty. Students learn about the powerful Asante state, the tragic trans-Atlantic slave trade, and Ghana's important role in the struggle for African independence. The class offers rewarding service opportunities assisting Ghanaians with development projects.
