HONO 3711 U.S. Environmental History

History of the ideas, actions, and policies related to the environment from the colonial era to the present. Political and religious ideas, scientific discoveries, exploration and expansion, industrialization, authority and power, and economic drivers will be explored with an eye not only toward environmental consequences, both rural and urban, but also toward impacts on North American indigenous societies, enslaved peoples, and the working class and poor. Special emphasis will be placed on the conservation and environmental movements, public health, and environmental justice.
