Grade Point Average
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated by multiplying the semester-hour value of the course by the point value in which a completion grade of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” “F,” “R,” or “P” was earned. For example, 3 semester hours with a grade of a “B” equates to 9 grade points.
To determine the grade point average, add up the grade points from all courses and divide by the total semester hours attempted. For example, 15 semester hours with 30 total grade points results in a grade point average of 2.0. The semester hour of credit represents at least three hours of work each week on average for a period of fifteen to sixteen weeks (one semester credit hour is equivalent to one hour of classroom work and two hours of preparation/study time to be performed outside of class time). Laboratory work may add a semester hour’s credit to a course.
