Student's Responsibility in the Veterans Education Benefits Process

Students who are eligible to receive VA Educational benefits should contact the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or visit the Education and Training section of the Department of Veterans Affairs website (https://benefits.va.gov/gibill) to learn about eligibility and VA requirements. Students are responsible for understanding their benefit entitlements. Please be informed that Del Mar College Veteran Services staff are not VA employees and cannot answer for decisions and payments made by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Steps for new students wishing to use VA educational benefits:

  1. Apply for admission and be admitted to Del Mar College as a student 
  2. Provide all required documentation to the Veteran Services Office
    1. Degree Plan
    2. Course schedule
    3. Certificate of Eligibility (letter from VA—to request, see the How to Apply section of the Department of Veterans Affairs website (https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply)
    4. DD214 (Member 4 copy)
    5. Intent to Enroll (Obtain from Veterans Services Office)
    6. Disclaimer (Obtain from Veterans Services Office)
    7. Copies of all college and military transcripts
    8. College Credit for Heroes Evaluation Request Form and Transcript Request Form (Obtain from Veteran Services Office)

Steps for continuing students wishing to use VA educational benefits: 

Provide all required documentation to the Veteran Services Office.
