TXCHSE/ESL/ABE Instruction
The Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TXCHSE) program -- formerly known as GED test preparation -- is designed to help students complete the equivalent of a high school diploma. For those individuals who are not ready for TXCHSE test preparation, we offer Adult Basic Education courses. The ESL (English as a Second Language) program develops all four aspects of learning English: listening, speaking, reading and writing. All classes are offered through the Department of Adult Education & Literacy located at the Venters’ Building on the East Campus or at the Center for Economic Development located at 3209 Kostoryz Road.
Classes are offered Monday through Thursday in the morning and evening based on demand. Prior to registration, new students must complete a preliminary orientation. ESL students must complete a one-on-one orientation by appointment. There is no tuition or fees for any of the classes offered through the program; however, continued enrollment is based on each student’s ability to demonstrate steady, measurable academic gains. This ensures maximum access to services for eligible students.
