ARH 427 Monuments and Memorials
This course explores the role that monuments and memorials play in our society, as visual representations of memory, history, and cultural heritage. We will investigate and analyze commemorations of the Civil War in Kentucky, usually through the study of stone statues, which we will travel to see in situ. In addition, we will broaden our conception of monuments to include discussion of paintings, photography, graphic novels, film, and other forms of memorialization.
