HIST 309 Legends as Ancient History

This course surveys how non traditional sources such as myths and legends have been used to reconstruct ancient history, including the Homeric epics, the Epic of Gilgamesh, King Arthur, and the Vinland Sagas.  In addition, the course makes a study of the phenomenon of pseudoscience, including the stories of Atlantis, the work of Immanuel Velikovsky, and the belief in ancient astronauts.
