HIST 130 World History, 500 BCE to the 1960s (PW)

This course surveys the forces that shaped Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  It begins in the ancient era and continues to the twentieth century.  We concentrate on a number of themes like understanding the social dynamics of religion, cultural highlights, armed conflict, the exercise of political power, and economic development.  We study some familiar events such as imperialism and the world wars, but from the perspective of the peoples of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  As such this course will help you diversify your knowledge of the world outside of the Americas and Europe and also gain new perspective on global issues.
