Sustainability Mission Statement
The mission of the Rockland Community College Sustainability Program is the careful and concerned use of natural resources to maintain our daily living without endangering the well-being of the future.
Rockland Community College, being a comprehensive community college school, recognizes the large contribution it makes to global warming, resource consumption, and carbon emissions. Those contributions come in the form of fossil fuel consumption for transportation, heating and cooling, and electricity, and water use in the form of sanitation, food preparation, and irrigation.
In consideration of the fact that the current course of action is not sustainable and jeopardizes the ability of future generations to sustain themselves and this planet, Rockland Community College will create a strategic sustainability plan that will guide the college in its carbon reduction efforts. Those efforts over the next 25 years shall culminate with the declaration of our carbon neutrality and transformation to a sustainable enterprise.
