Music Education, B.A.

All music education majors, with the exception of keyboard majors, are required to enroll in class piano every semester (MUSC 1171, MUSC 1172, MUSC 1173, MUSC 1174) until they have satisfied the departmental piano proficiency requirement. All keyboard majors must enroll in Piano Class V MUSC 1175 and pass an advanced piano proficiency exam. Majors are also required to attend recitals and concerts and satisfactorily complete a recital previously approved by the music faculty. EDUC 3307, EDUC 4401, MUSC 3210, MUSC 3220, MUSC 3230: These courses also satisfy general education requirements and appear in the number of hours for both general education and the major; in reality, music education majors may have up to 1 additional hour to use for electives. Students may use elective hours to earn a minor or another major, as well as to develop additional marketable skills. The number of elective hours students may take will depend on which concentration they select and on the courses taken to satisfy general education requirements.

It is strongly suggested that students pursuing the performance concentration take a minimum of 12 hours of applied music lessons prior to taking MUSC 3990.

All music education majors must present a junior level recital on their primary instrument of approximately thirty minutes in length.
