CTSJ 214 Legal Tools for Social Change
Students interested in engaging in social justice work will develop critical skills through case simulations. Through several writing assignments, students will learn what persuasive legal writing is in the United States, how it differs from other forms of writing, and how to write to serve clients’ varying needs through writing that appears objective but subjectively persuades. Students will also learn how to develop oral advocacy skills through mock intake, client rapport-building, and negotiation exercises. Through oral argument “moot” exercises, students will regularly present before a panel of two to three peers, handling questions from “the bench.” Throughout the semester, students will work collaboratively and independently.
