BLST 207 African American History: Black Americans and the Making of the Nation
This course introduces students to major issues in African American history from the earliest experiences of Africans in North America, to the quest for abolition and freedom in the nineteenth century, to the modern freedom struggle of the mid-twentieth century. With our focus on pivotal demographic, cultural, and political developments within Black American communities across the United States, we will explore key themes and watershed moments in the African American experience. By analyzing the dynamics of African American history in this way, we will see how deeply Black freedom fighters, cultural innovators and institution-builders shaped the culture and politics of the United States.
