HUS114 Curriculum Planning for School-Age Child Care Programs

Participation in workshops, classroom discussions, self- reflection, field work and other projects should enable students to: apply principles of curriculum development to planning for children ages 6-12 (i.e., goal setting, design developmentally appropriate experiences and the teaching/ learning contexts in which they occur, scheduling); select, plan, and carry out activities in all curricular areas in school-age child care; develop activities and environments based on knowledge of primary-age children's needs and interests and of diverse populations including children with special needs; and discuss the role of the staff person in designing and implementing curriculum.
