DTH.2019 Theatre and Society

This course will survey Applied Theatre and Theatre for Social Change practices in the field today. Students will understand how theatre can function both as entertainment and as community-building and civic engagement. Topics may include Arts-in-Corrections, Creative Aging, working with neurodivergent populations, Agit-Prop Theatre, Poor Theatre, and Theatre of the Oppressed. Students will explore a variety of organizations and practitioners using theatre as a tool to bring communities together on and off the stage.
