EDU.5614 Writing for Teachers and Young People
The goal of this course is to develop a repertoire of techniques for teaching writing and a personal understanding of the writing process. Based upon the belief that engaging in writing can contribute to the teaching of writing, candidates work to strengthen their acquisition of writing skills. With the instructor and peer writers, candidates will learn how to invent, develop and revise material, as well as develop a repertoire of techniques to share with young people. The course also features field experience to provide hands-on experience in the teaching of writing to elementary and secondary students as well as the principles and practices of assessing student writing. This field experience will also provide students with a model for teaching writing in their classrooms and for interacting with writers in conferences.
