BIO 2060 Introduction to Conservation Biology

How do we protect species, their habitats and ecosystems from extinction? Conservation biology is a science that focuses on the biological diversity at gene, species, ecosystem, population and global levels. This 3 credit course will provide an introduction to the role of science in the conservation research of animals and plants. Class discussions will focus on both domestic and international conservation cases and research, using both textbook and primary literature examples. Lectures topics will cover biodiversity, speciation, habitat destruction, infectious diseases, and conservation management.
