SOC 5083 SOCIAL DISSOLUTION
The unraveling of societal institutions and of mental frameworks used to make sense of the social world. Topics include: the breakdown of states, regional wars, cities of violence, cities of violence, emergent global protest movements, modern genocide, global terrorism. The course asks how the social sciences, and sociology in particular, have responded to these issues and concludes with a search for solutions at the global level.
