This award recognizes undergraduate and graduate students who engage in social activism, strive for academic excellence, and foster an awareness of solutions to the many social issues that affect the communities in which they live, work and attend school. Awardees are honored, at the Malcolm/King Breakfast, for embodying the ideas of Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To be eligible, undergraduate students must either be taking or have successfully completed one Africana Studies course or a course related to race and ethnicity, and have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.8. Graduate students must have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Students must submit a 500-word essay discussing their commitment to public service and how they utilize social activism to embody the legacies of Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The essay should be a well thought out, reflective, and analytical essay.
