HIST 473 Africa and the Making of the Modern World
Examination of Africa and its place in the making of the modern world from c. 1500 to the present day. Attention given to pre-colonial African civilizations, colonial states and societies, African nationalisms and decolonization, and the independence era. Survey of geography, history, and present-day problems of Africa south of the Sahara.

GE 140, GE 141, (for all majors), HIST 200 (for History majors), Junior status.
