SPA 222 CC:RIGHT TO HOUSING LATIN AMER

An exploration of how knowledge is constructed in Hispanic Studies through discussions of regional and climatic differences, social class restrictions, ethnicities and races, tradition vs. modernity, and slums vs. urban development. Students will study environmental construction projects like the “Sustainable Construction Route” (Costa Rica) to support environmentally friendly practices and sustainability for generations to come, and a cosmovision that explores connections between pre-conquest Indigenous practices and contemporary building feats from winners of prestigious global architectural awards (Mexico, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Costa Rica). The exploration attempted in the “Right to Housing” course broaches economic, social, historical, religious and ethical trends in Latin America, and reinforces student linguistic, critical, and writing skills in Spanish.
