PHE 118 DEI IN SPORTS

This course offers a critical examination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles within the dynamic and complex landscape of amateur and professional athletics. Students will explore the historical, social, political, and economic factors that shape access, opportunity, and participation in sport based on identity markers such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, and religion. A major component of the learning process in this class is the active, respectful exchange of perspectives, where students learn directly from one another's lived experiences. This classroom environment fosters critical self-reflection and deepens understanding of the often-personal impact of inequity and the meaning of true inclusion.
