DAN 342 DANCE COSTUMING

Designing for dance: history, creation, collaboration. The course explores design from the tutu through the artists of Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe, to Trisha Brown’s collaborations with Rauschenberg, etc. How do costumes contribute to a dance? What do moving bodies need to be supported and free of encumbrance? Includes practice in drawing the moving body. Students will design and make costumes. No sewing experience needed.
