vLab@Everywhere Computer Lab
The vLab@Everywhere is a 'virtual' computer lab system that allows students to access academic software from anywhere on campus using a student's personal laptop on Wi-Fi or by plugging into an open network port.  A student computer lab located at the help desk also has many machines running vLab@Everywhere and a few traditional PCs and Macs for student use.  There are also spaces in this lab for students to plug in their own devices to access vLab@Everywhere.  Students can also print in this area.
Beyond the help desk, students can also access vLab@Everywhere from anywhere on campus by logging in to https://vlab.uiwtx.edu.

vLab@Everywhere provides students the latest software including:
Microsoft Office Suite
Adobe Creative Suite
JMP
SPSS
Gerber Fashion Design
ChemDraw
…  and more!

The UIW Network
UIW is a fully networked and wireless campus.  Wireless access is available virtually anywhere on the campus that you might want to go, including dorm rooms, the Mabee Library, and shady spots under trees throughout the main campus!  Students simply connect to the 'uiw-students' wireless network from any device using their UIW username and password.  If you have problems getting connected to Wi-Fi, just contact or stop by the Technology Help Desk.

The 'uiw-resnet' network is available throughout UIW residence halls.  This network allows students to register their laptops, computers, gaming consoles, AppleTV and other devices to connect to the internet.  Instructions for connecting are available on the IRD website at http://www.uiw.edu/ird/students/resnetinfo.html.  There are no student charges for use of networks in the residence halls.

It is important to note that UIW offers a private network and cannot participate nor condone copyright violations.  As such, UIW is obligated to block peer-to-peer file sharing activities on the network (e.g. applications such as KaZaa, BitTorrent, LimeWire and others that facilitate the sharing of digital music and video files in violation of U.S. copyright laws).

Student Laptop Purchase Program
Students are expected to have and use a laptop or tablet computer for their academic endeavors.  Students are welcome to 'Bring-Your-Own-Device' to campus or may purchase a device through the UIW student laptop program.  The UIW laptop program is provided through the UIW Bookstore and offers students the ability to select a variety of models.  Visit https://www.bkstr.com/incarnatewordstore/home  to view models available or stop by the bookstore to view a demo unit.  If applicable, students may be able to use financial aid to support this purchase.  The Technology help desk team will gladly assist you in resolving network/Internet and academic software access issues.  For hardware problems, you will need to contact a Follett bookstore liaison or the manufacturer that warranted your system.  The UIW Follett bookstore is happy to help coordinating warranty work you need.

Technology Resources
Cardinal Apps, found on the student intranet website at https://my.uiw.edu/current-students/index.html provides single sign-on access to most of the electronic academic tools you will use at UIW (e.g., Office365, E- Mail, Blackboard, Bannerweb which provides each access to student financial accounts and registration information, UIW Print, and others).

Keeping in Touch
All UIW students are issued a university email address. Dubbed Cardinal Mail, it is powered by Microsoft Outlook. Access to email is easy through the student intranet site at https://my.uiw.edu/current-students/index.html or through Cardinal Apps. A student email account is important because it is the electronic address to which all official university correspondence is sent.  Students can use Webmail or the Outlook client and reap all the benefits of Microsoft Office365 (calendar, contacts, inbox, task/assignment lists and notes) while being able to send and receive mail from any internet connected device from anywhere in the world.

If you do not receive information about your new UIW email account (sent by Admissions to your personal email account after admission) or you have lost your login information, contact the Technology help desk for assistance in recovering your username and password.

Remember: protecting your password is important.  Do not give out your password to anyone!

Technology Outages and Updates
UIW uses a Twitter account @uiwtechcheck to convey important information about technology especially outage notifications.  If you want near real time information on what is going on with any technology service such as network outages (including residence halls), regular software maintenance downtimes, Banner, Blackboard, Email, Cardinal Apps, and other network services you can follow this account to stay informed.  This account will post when there is an outage and will also follow up when the problem is resolved.

Mobile App
The UIW mobile app for iOS and Android devices provides on-the-go access to many of UIW resources.  Download the App from the Apple Store or Google Play.

Audiovisual Support
Audiovisual support for special events and classrooms is available through the Media Services office.  For more information, visit https://my.uiw.edu/ird/instructional-technology/audiovisual.html or contact the  Technology help desk at (210) 829-2721 or 1 (866) 614-5043 to put in the AV request.
