OCTA 1620 Client Evaluation/Assessment

This course provides students with the essential knowledge required to begin the process of problem-solving through the determinants of client dysfunction.  Building on previous courses, the student is exposed to the OT process, as directed by the OT Practice Framework, by connecting evaluation to intervention strategy and outcome assessing.  The student is introduced to various tools, skills, and assessment methods for evaluating joint range of motion, muscle strength, function (physical and cognitive), and occupational performance, in order to develop an occupational profile.  An assortment of assessment tools, for evaluating OT clients across multiple domains, if introduced and utilized in this course. The student is taken through the collaborative process of client evaluation to establish holistic intervention strategies designed to meet projected benchmarks that are determined essential to functional recovery.  Upon completion, students should be able to administer various assessments and appropriate treatment approaches addressing sensation, movement, perception/cognition, affect self-care, and work-related skills.  This course is for OTA majors only.
