SPA 444 DIALOGUE BET SPAIN & AMERICAS

An interdisciplinary exploration of the permanent, problematic, and enriching dialogue between Spain and the Americas. This transatlantic interaction began in 1492, reached a breaking point with the 19th century revolutions, and continues to shape the conflicts of our global moment. Through the analysis of historical texts, literary artifacts, and films, the course considers key issues such as conquest, slavery, modernity, post-colonialism, and immigration. Sources include Las Casas, Carlos Fuentes, Bolívar, Martí, and Guillermo del Toro.
