PHI 222 ETHICAL THEORY

An examination of some of the major systematic philosophical approaches to issues in ethics. The course focuses on classic and contemporary work that aim to address the following questions: What is the morally right thing to do? Why should we care about doing what’s morally right? Is morality objective, or does it vary from person to person, or from culture to culture? What does it take for something to have moral standing? Students will also consider how different ethical theories might offer practical guidance on some contemporary ethical issues.
