HMD 240 CC: INTERGEN PLAY & LEARNING

The “gray tsunami” is coming, and with the U.S. Census noting that the population age demographic is rapidly changing, with approximately 10,000 individuals a day crossing the age threshold of 65, the mismatch between the number of individuals over the age of 65 and those under the age of 65 will have lasting implications in the coming decades. The U.S. is not alone in having to confront the reality of an aging population; Japan, Italy, and Monaco are some of the other countries that will have a more significant proportion of their population over the age of 65 in comparison to the balance of their people under the age of 18. So, how can we take advantage of this resource? How can we benefit multiple generations? This course is designed to introduce students to the intergenerational (IG) studies field and engage them primarily in experiential learning activities with senior volunteers and the children at the Lab School. Specific topics are subject to change annually.
