HMD 201 OBSERVATIONAL RESEARCH METHODS

Learning and applying methods of observation, a research method central to the field of human development, and how it connects and relates to other human development research methods. Observation (including systematic observation protocols / procedures and ethnographic approaches to observation) is a predominant research method in human development used to assess, analyze, and gain a deep and comprehensive understanding of the holistic development of diverse individuals in different contexts and environments. For this course's research assignments,  students may choose the age / developmental period(s) that are of greatest interest to them and conduct observational research in the setting of their choice (for example, the Connecticut College Child Development Lab School: https://www.conncoll.edu/cccdls/).
