HIS 413 NATURAL DISASTERS: A HISTORY

The course explores how a variety of human societies responded to existential environmental challenges in order to gain perspective on our contemporary anthropocentric moment. Students will examine strategies of various people who have encountered cataclysmic storms, earthquakes, volcanoes, disease, and invasive species that have haunted human societies from the precontact period to the present.
