HIS 339 SETTLER COLONIALISMS

Over the last few decades, Settler Colonialism has emerged from a term and process to become not only a methodology, but a transdisciplinary historical field within academia and scholarly journal. Settler colonialism has referred to modes of colonial state-building projects within modern history, but some of the most recent scholarship on settler colonialism examines how settlers of color (Asian, Black, Mexican, and Native) have, in turn, occupied and changed Indigenous built-environments. This upper-level seminar will first explore the theory of settler colonialism, and will then apply settler colonialism to the study of history, and will also examine it within photography, literature, and the social sciences.
