HIS 249 EARLY ISLAMIC HISTORY

This course examines the history of Muslim communities from the life of the Prophet Muhammad in the 6th-7th centuries CE through the end of the Mongol Empire in the 14th century. Students will confront popular misconceptions of Islam and Muslims through critical analysis of how medieval Muslims engaged the diverse and complex social, political, and cultural worlds in which they lived.
