An exploration of the history of ideas that informed feminist movements and theory between 1850 and 1980 from an intersectional perspective.  The course examines the main concerns, conflicts, benefits, and limitations of feminist social movements and whether, or to what extent, they continue to shape feminist theorizing in our contemporary landscape.  Students will draw on philosophical treatises, social movement pamphlets, hymnals, popular cultural materials, and literature to aid in this endeavor.
