GOV 493Y US SOCIAL MOVEMENT POLITICS

A study of three social movements that have arisen in the United States since the development social media: the Tea Party, Black Lives Matter, and #MeToo. How have these modern movements transformed the political landscape since 2010, and to what extent have they been successful in achieving their policy goals? Students will explore these questions and examine the strengths and limitations of modern social movements in effecting policy change. Students will write a case study that critically evaluates the policy impact of a modern social movement in American politics.
