GOV 493G EXPERTISE IN US ENV. POLICY

Politics of Expertise in US Environmental Policy--A seminar exploring the politics of expertise in US environmental policy decision-making. Through case studies (e.g., spent nuclear fuel disposal; climate change adaptation), students will examine questions concerning the respective roles of technical experts, the public, elected officials, and bureaucrats in complex environmental decision-making within American democratic institutions. Students will be expected to make presentations and actively participate in discussions.

Prerequisite

A 100-level GOV or ES course. Course is open to Juniors and Seniors.

Registration Restrictions

Course is open to juniors and seniors. Sophomores may take it with permission of instructor. However, if taken as a sophomore, the course does not fulfill the requirement of the major of a 400-level seminar (which must be taken during junior or senior year).

Enrollment Limit

Enrollment limited to 16 students.
