FYS 1088 HISTORICAL DRAMA AND HAMILTON

Lin-Manuel Miranda's revisionist, race-bending hit musical Hamilton prompted questions about historical drama: What do we want from history? What does it mean to change history? How does history help us think about the legacies of oppression and power based on race, gender, sexuality, or class? In addition to Hamilton, works studied may include Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 1; Sondheim's Assassins; Suzan-Lori Parks's Venus; Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom; and Smith's Twilight: Los Angeles.
