FYS 1065 POPULISM

An examination of the causes and consequences of populism’s global upsurge. Emphasis on populist discourse, historical precedents, rightwing and leftwing varieties, and populists in power.  A comparative focus, with examples from Europe, Latin America, the United States, Asia, and Africa.  Cases include Brexit, Victor Orban, Donald Trump, Hugo Chavez, Jair Bolsonaro, and Recep Erdoğan.
