FYS 1056 COLD WAR CULTURES

This course examines Soviet and American narratives of a global battle between communism and capitalism: tales of spies, astronauts, defectors, and scientists that defined heroism and patriotism for popular audiences in the United States and Soviet Union. Additional consideration of the role of the state in cultural production, as well as anti-communist sentiment as justification for homophobia, racism, and narrowly defined “family values” in the United States.
