This research-based seminar covers more than a thousand years of Ukrainian history, including topics such as Kievan Rus', the religions of Ukraine, the Cossacks, the city of Lviv, the early works of Nikolai Gogol, state-sponsored famine under Stalin, the experience of Soviet Ukraine during World War II, the modern Ukrainian state, and the rise of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The course culminates in the creation of an online educational resource to advance the understanding of present-day Ukraine in a global context.
