FYS 1042 MAGIC AND POWER IN ISLAM

This course examines magic and folk beliefs in the Islamic spaces of Spain, Italy, and North Africa. The course investigates the incorporation of pre-Islamic practices during early Islam, while analyzing the enduring power of magic in medicine and folk belief today. Students will consider how curses, amulets, and astrology transcend cultural and religious boundaries in the Islamic West.
