ART 214 VIDEO INSTALLATION

This class provides tools and a context for creating, analyzing, and controlling a wide range of video-based experiences from the sculptural to the cinematic.  Screenings, readings, field trips, and class projects deal with issues frequently explored through this dynamic medium.  Topics may include the body, memory, identity, home, surveillance, and resistance; these will be considered alongside formal questions of space, color, rhythm, synesthesia, and synchronicity.  Classwork includes an exploration of DIY, alternative, and immediate production techniques, such as action/body cameras, “video painting” and live performance with analog and digital tools, green screen studio shooting and lighting workshops, special effects with After Effects, animation, and a focus on projection mapping on buildings and objects.
