AHI 234 ITALIAN BAROQUE ART

In Baroque Italy, church and secular patrons commission works that exalt their status and glorify their achievements, often using epic biblical or classical imagery. At the same time, artists work to create images that picture ordinary people imbued with a new sense of dignity and worth. Analysis will focus on the works of artists as varied as Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Gianlorenzo Bernini.
