HIS 347 IS AFRICA POOR?

Poverty is widespread across Africa, yet exists alongside the continent’s fantastic wealth in natural resources and human brilliance. This seminar explores how scholars and African activists have tried to understand—and overcome—this contradiction. The course takes an historical approach to studying Africans’ places within the global economy, from slavery and colonial rule to the present.
