GOV 336 CONSTITUTIONL LAW: CIVIL LIB

This course examines Supreme Court decisions and legal, political, and philosophical debates on civil liberties. Readings will consider litigation of the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments as well as non-explicit constitutional rights of privacy. Issues will include struggles over freedoms of speech and religion, property, and privacy rights, racial and gender equality, and criminal justice, analyzed in the context of American political, philosophical, and legal traditions and structures of race, gender, and class.
