GOV 305 AFRICAN AMERICAN POL THOUGHT

An exploration of the political writings of African Americans in the United States. The course examines the central issues animating the writing of African American intellectuals from the Civil War era to present day.  Particular attention will be paid to the differences among these thinkers regarding how best to advance the political agenda of African Americans in the United States. The course analyzes the parallels between the debates of the past and those of today, and examines the extent to which past writings can (or should) influence the political ideas and strategies of the present.
