BOT 215 PLANT CELLS AND TISSUES

An introduction to the structure, function, and dynamics of plant cells and tissue systems with a central focus on the acquisition and storage of carbon dioxide and water.  A detailed look at organelles, intracellular trafficking of small and macromolecules, cellular signaling, cell division, and cell wall development -- from fertilization through all phases of vegetative and reproductive growth. Although the main focus of the course is angiosperms, examples are drawn from other lineages of land plants including those adapted to changing environments. Lab work develops microscopy and observation skills, culminating in self-designed research projects.
