CHI 120 BASIC SPOKEN CANTONESE
A step-by-step introduction to the Pearl River Delta's lingua franca using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions. The course covers the regionalect's nine-tone syllabic inventory, its basic vocabulary, and sentence-level communication in uncomplicated urban settings.
Notes
Taught in Mandarin in a comparative-contrastive framework for dialect study. Knowledge of Chinese characters presumed.
This course may not be used to satisfy the language requirement for General Education.
Prerequisite
Advanced-level Mandarin or permission of the instructor.
